Fence Calculator
Plan a straight-run picket fence with posts, sections, rails, pickets and post concrete. Gate openings and dedicated gate posts are included.
How this calculator works
Gate widths are removed from the picketed run. Sections round up from maximum post spacing, while pickets use their actual face width plus the selected gap.
Formula: sections = ceil(net run ÷ spacing); posts = sections + 1 + gate posts
Worked example
A 100 ft fence with one 4 ft gate leaves 96 ft of picketed run. At 8 ft maximum spacing it needs 12 sections plus end and gate posts.
Before you order
- Locate property lines and underground utilities before digging.
- Check frost depth, wind exposure and local post-depth rules.
- Corners, slopes and changes of direction may require extra posts.
